Student Art Show: Inspirations from Ireland

May 9, 2023 By Mitchell Eiss

Our Annual Student Art Show: Inspirations from Ireland is up and all are welcome to come and see it anytime the library is open!

Our students in grades 1 – 12 in Alexis Starke’s library art classes have been working on a variety of projects united by the theme Inspirations from Ireland. We have taken inspiration from the early medieval manuscript the Book of Kells; the contemporary animated film The Secret of Kells; and the jewel toned stained glass portraits of Harry Clarke, while learning some Irish history, culture, geography, and science along the way.

Come join in the excitement as our wonderful students share their artwork with the community!

Create and Sip for Adults: Brazilian Landscape

April 3, 2023 By Mitchell Eiss

Our next Create and Sip event for adults with Alexis Starke is coming up!  This month, we will be creating a quick Brazilian landscaped inspired by Tarsila do Amaral.  We will touch on composition, shading, blending and value and should end up with a fantastic piece by the end of the night!
Each participant will receive a goody bag with chocolates, a mini bottle of wine, paper, and inspiration images. Oil pastels are ideal for this project (try them if you never have!) but colored pencils or crayons can work too. Our projects are always designed to be relaxed and beginner friendly but fun for all levels.  This is a live virtual class.
Registration for Piermont patrons starts Monday, May 1st, at 12:00 noon.  Registration for all starts Monday, May 8th, at 10:00 am.

Adult Create and Sip: New Zealand Artist John Pule

January 10, 2023 By Mitchell Eiss

Create and Sip is coming up! Details and registration on our website events calendar at piermontlibrary.org🎨🍷

Join us in our latest Create and Sip Even for Adults with Alexis Starke. We will be escaping from the cold to create imaginary landscapes inspired by New Zealand artist, John Pule, born on the island of Niue in the South Pacific. Described by the Queensland Art Gallery as “one of the Pacific’s most significant artists,” Pule is also an accomplished poet and novelist.

Each participant will receive a goody bag with chocolates, a mini bottle of wine, paper, and inspiration images. This project works best with acrylic paints, but markers, oil pastels, or even colored pencils or crayons can work as well. Pule often uses a mix of materials and you can too. We can provide some acrylics in little containers if you wish. Our projects area always designed to be relaxed and beginner friendly but fun for all levels. This is a live virtual class.
