The Solution to Plastic Pollution

February 18, 2022 By Mitchell Eiss

Join us virtually on 2-22-22 for an in-depth discussion of our planet’s plastic crisis. From the extraction of component materials to various manufacturing processes, to its end destination in human bodies, waterways, and incinerators, plastic is an issue that needs to be tackled immediately. We will talk about the various points in plastic production and waste management where change can be made and how you can become involved in that change. This is not the “you just need to recycle more” approach; we will touch on producer responsibility, legislation, and community organizing to advance the Solutions to Plastic Pollution!

This program is presented and funded by ROCKLAND CCE in conjunction with a grant from O&R and sponsored by Dominican College. The program is in partnership with Piermont Public Library.

Virtual Art Show of the Month: Andrew Weatherly: The Art Beyond a Syndrome

February 1, 2022 By Mitchell Eiss

For the month of February, the Piermont Library presents Andrew Weatherly: The Art Beyond a
Syndrome. We hope you enjoy this inspiring collection of paintings, photographs, and poetry.

From the Artist…….
Welcome! It’s exciting to return to the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library and exhibit
some of my work. This virtual exhibit of The Art Beyond A Syndrome includes selections of my
paintings, poetry and photography.

Art is a meaningful tool that I use for personal growth. It has allowed me to overcome obstacles
while creating new opportunities. Born with Down Syndrome, art also provides me with a unique
avenue for advocating for persons with disabilities. I enjoy working in acrylics as it offers me
fluidity in blending colors. I find inspiration in so many places; the beaches of Cape Cod, the
NY Botanical Gardens, walks along the Piermont Pier, daytrips to the many fascinating sites in
New York, or just watching the sun set behind the reservoir A camera is always at hand! My
photographs provide me with ideas for paintings, as does my poetry; and vice a versa. These
three mediums work in tandem to create a whole vision, inviting the viewer to see many
dimensions that make up the person I am, reflected in the collections of “The Art Beyond A
Syndrome” books.

With the exception of “Good Morning Sun” (watercolor), the paintings in this exhibit are acrylic
on canvas. All original paintings and limited edition photographs are available for sale.
“Abundance” (featured) is available only as a print. To purchase a piece of work from this
exhibit, or a copy of my books, “The Art Beyond A Syndrome, True Colors – Vol. III”, or “When
I Close My Eyes, Vol. II”, please contact me at aawhearworks@yahoo.com. Include the name of
the piece that sparked your interest. For your convenience, payment and pickup will be held at
the Piermont Library. The Piermont Public Library will benefit from a portion of all of the sales,
including my books.

I invite you to visit my website, www.andrewweatherly.com, and learn a bit more about my
artistic endeavors.

Best,
Andrew Weatherly
