Honoring and Remembering September 11th, 2001

September 2, 2021 By Mitchell Eiss

We have two programs this month honoring and remembering September 11th, 2001. As always, we remember beloved fallen fire fighter Dennis P. McHugh for whom our library is named. We are forever grateful for his service, and that of so many brave men and women, to the people of New York.

On Wednesday, September 8th, join us for a documentary film screening via Zoom of 9/12: From Chaos to Community.

Then on Friday, September 10th, join us for a virtual talk A Story of a 9/ 11 Survivor: Victorian Lockhart.

September Virtual Art Show: Diana Chelaru: Dripping

September 2, 2021 By Mitchell Eiss

For the month of September, the Piermont Library presents our Virtual Art Show of the Month: Diana Chelaru: Dripping.  This online exhibition features work in which Chelaru explores dripping techniques.  As she explains:
This show includes compositions based on my observation of the surrounding environment, and they are a visual reference to the real world. In creating these paintings I used two different techniques: the flat wash, one of the most basic watercolor techniques and the dripping onto a canvas technique well know from Jackson Pollock’s work.

View the work on our website throughout September at https://www.piermontlibrary.org/artist-of-the-month/

Create and Sip for Adults: Jean-Michel Basquiat

June 28, 2021 By Mitchell Eiss

Let your inner artist out!  Join us on Thursday, August 19th at 7:00pm for the latest in our popular Create and Sip Events for Adults with Alexis Starke.  This month, we will create an Neo-expressionist painting inspired by New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.  Largely self-taught in the great museums of New York City, Basquiat rose to fame in the 1980’s, bringing the African American experience into the artistic establishment.  Each participant will receive a goody bag with chocolates, a mini bottle of wine, paper, inspiration images, and some black acrylic paint.  You will also need either acrylic paints and brushes; oil pastels; and/ or chalk pastels.  The project will not work without one of these. Please email astarke@piermontlibrary.org with any questions.  Our project is designed to be relaxed and beginner friendly but fun for all levels.
