In Loving Memory…

May 1, 2020 By Mitchell Eiss

The Piermont Library is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Samuels and his partner Karen Brown.

A beloved and longstanding member of the community, Bob was very involved with our Library’s events and supportive of our community as a whole. As President of the Piermont Civic Association and Editor of the Piermont Newsletter, Bob touched the lives of so many and he will be greatly missed.

He, and all those in our communities, like Charlie Bullock and his family, who have passed during these troubling times, will be remembered in our hearts. For Bob and Karen, we can at least find some small joy knowing that they are once again together, and at peace. For all those lost to this terrible disease, we hope that they are resting easy and those that loved them will find some peace and know we are thinking of them.

Distance Art Classes for Kids

April 26, 2020 By Mitchell Eiss

The Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library will offer a series of Distance Art Classes for students in grades 1 – 9 taught by Alexis Starke.  Although these classes are technically geared toward children, adults are more than welcome to join in too!

At the moment, we are emailing lesson plans and posting the finished pieces on our social media so that the kids- and community- can see what each other are doing.  Students are welcome to ask for help or feedback via email, text, phone, etc.  We may add a video element at some point as well.

Classes will cover a variety of materials and techniques in drawing, painting, design, sculpture, mixed media, collage, and printmaking. Inspiration will be taken from the greats of art history, contemporary artists, and our beautiful surroundings in Piermont on the Hudson River. Creativity will be developed in a supportive environment. And of course we always have fun!

To register, please email Alexis Starke at astarke@piermontlibrary.org

The Light in Ordinary Days: New Paintings by Dan Lukens

February 16, 2020 By Mitchell Eiss

PLEASE NOTE: the opening reception for this exhibition has been postponed at this time due to the current public health concerns.

As the Library is closed indefinitely, please take a moment to check out our March artist, Piermont favorite, Dan Lukens via his website http://danlukensart.com/

For the month of March, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Library presents The Light in Ordinary Days: New Paintings by Dan Lukens.

From the artist…..As Emerson wrote, “ Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.”
The best in our lives, I believe, resides in familiar things and often overlooked places. In a path well traveled, foliage changing with the season, or a face we know, there is a refuge in the sublime light in ordinary days.
Shared in these new paintings is an ode to local life and a homage to the ties we carry with us.

Shakira Chin: Waters Along the LoHud

January 11, 2020 By Mitchell Eiss

For the month of February, the Library presents, Shakira Chin: Waters Along the LoHud.  A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, February 9th, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  All are welcome!
Introducing Artist Shakira ChinAs a fine art oil painter, Shakira specializes in sunrises/ sunsets, waterscapes, and silhouettes- it is hard not to find inspiration from the Lower Hudson Valley…. LoHud.
Shakira fell in Love with Rockland County and the Wonderful Community of Nyack years ago, elated by its proximitiy to numerous parks, outdoor activities, incredible sunrises and sunsets, and many bodies of water.  These inspire, enable, and allow her to exemplify her mission through oil paint renditions, to capture the glorious “Indelible Moments in Time” Mother Nature offers us.
Intertwining her love of getting her hands dirty with her art, she uses reclaimed wood, upon request, to assemble the perfect frame for each of her Works of Art.
Shakira is involved in many art advocacy groups, volunteers widely, and donates part proceeds to www.projectaware.org, a Marine Conservation Community.
For More Works/ Inquiries/Commissions/Personalized Renditions…….. Please visit www.shakirachinart.comhttps://instagram.com/shakirachinart
