We remember.

September 11, 2024 By Alexis Starke

We remember the thousands of brave rescue workers and civilians who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. We remember those who selflessly gave their lives while desperately trying to save the lives of others. They are heroes who will not be forgotten.

We remember beloved fallen firefighter Dennis P. McHugh (Engine 22 Ladder 13) for whom our library is named. The generosity of the Dennis P. McHugh Foundation enabled the construction of the Library’s beautiful building overlooking Flywheel Park and the Hudson River, a symbol of the collective spirit and positive power of community strength to overcome adversity. His memory and legacy are with us always.

September Art Show- Melissa Falconett: Threads of Memory

August 27, 2024 By Alexis Starke

Join us on Sunday, September 22nd, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm for an Artist’s Reception for Piermont artist Melissa Falconett: Threads of Memory.  All are welcome!  The exhibition is on display throughout the month of September.

Melissa Falconett Artist Statement

I am a Hudson Valley-based artist, originally from Southern Indiana. My creative journey has led me through various mediums, but six years ago I found a deep connection with embroidery. It has become a meditative practice, a space for productive rumination on emotions, longings, challenges, and moments of beauty I wish to preserve. Each piece is a tangible record of my contemplations, a visual journal woven in thread.

My inspiration stems from the often-unnoticed details of the natural world: the intricate lines within a leaf, the ripples in water, the woven structure of a bird’s nest, the overlapping petals of a flower. I combine these organic forms with my formal design training to carefully select fabrics, threads, stitches, and colors. My aim is to create a playful balance between intense and subtle details, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and perhaps find their own moments of contemplation within the work.

Screening of “ALL ABOARD! Next Stop Piermont”

August 23, 2024 By Alexis Starke

Join us on Monday, September 9th, for this special film screening.  Piermont Historical Society’s third award-winning documentary, “ALL ABOARD! Next Stop Piermont” will take you back to a time when two Railroads literally put Piermont on the map. PHS debuted the film at the Village Hall last November to a standing-room-only crowd. In April, “ALL ABOARD! Next Stop Piermont” garnered the “Best Local Documentary” award at the Nyack International Film Festival.

You are sure to enjoy this unique Tale of Two Railroads!

Following the screening, members of the Piermont Historical Society will be ‘on board’ 😉 for a Q&A.

The film is approximately 30 minutes long.  Register on our website events calendar
